Hi everyone. This trip is a go!!!!!!!
If you haven’t been yet, I can tell you it’s a really good time. The weather in October is amazing. I will post details, including the itinerary. Please note that information may be edited as the days get closer. But the date won’t change. Let’s keep all information on this post, including meetups the day of (as not all of our members are on facebook and we want to make sure to include them too).
NCC’S 5TH ANNUAL PISMO TRIP
When: OCTOBER 19TH – 21ST, 2018
Hotel: Hilton Garden Inn – 601 James Way Pismo Beach, CA
You can make reservations now. The group name is NorCal Challengers. The Rate is $179 for a Room with King Size bed. This rate is for a 2 night stay with free breakfast included for all parties in your room. We can not get that rate for a single night, so you have to book for 2 nights. There are 20 rooms. As we get closer to the date, if we need more rooms, we should be able to get more. But keep in mind, there is a college football team staying there the same weekend, so if I were you, I’d book now. They won’t charge your credit card until the day you arrive. We will have a preferred parking area for ALL of the Challengers in our group that are staying at the hotel.
Friday Oct 19th:
Meet up (there will be 2 meet up locations) in the morning. 1st meetup will be in Elk Grove meeting with co-host Marie. She will determine the location and then I will update this, as the date gets closer. The 2nd meetup point will be somewhere near the Highway 33/Highway 5 interchange (TBD) to meet up with San Jose area folks. If there isn’t anyone coming from that area, we won’t stop there. If there are more north bay/peninsula/bay area people (not as far down as San Jose going), then we can do a meetup in Tracy and then just jump on Highway 5. Keep in mind, this is a long drive (approx 4 1/2 hours from Elk Grove). Make sure your tank is filled when you leave.
Arrive at hotel and park in our preferred parking area. This will be just for us all weekend long. We won’t be able to check in until 3pm, but we can use the restrooms and change to get ready for the BEACH!!!!! From here we can carpool (if you want) to Avila Beach. We can pick up sandwiches, snacks and drinks at California Fresh Market or Subway in the Pismo Coast Shopping Center shopping center (it’s on the other side of the freeway from our hotel).
Arrive at the Avila Beach and park in the Avila Beach Public Parking lot, which is $6.00. There is free parking but it’s a further walk. Bring your beach chairs, towels, sunglasses and most importantly your sunscreen. 😎
We will leave to go and check in. Check in is at 3pm. This can take some time as we are all checking in at once. So some people may want to leave the beach a little early, I’ll leave that up to you.
Dinner will be pizza at the poolside at our hotel.
After dinner is the infamous GAME NIGHT in the conference room right next to the bar in the lobby area. I will warn you, lots of fun, snacks, laughs and silliness goes on. There is a TV in the bar area too, so if there is some important game going on, you can watch. Should you choose to forgo the infamous game night, you can retire early or go explore Pismo Beach nightlife.
Saturday October 20th, 2018
Free breakfast at the hotel. Make sure to bring the little slip of paper that they give you during check in, to get your free breakfast. So when you check in, if you have 4 people in your party, you should have 8 pieces of paper when you check in (for both mornings). Remember, they have cook to order items, just ask.
Meet up in parking lot at 10:00am for the cruise ( we will tell the other clubs to meet at 0930, just so people running late will really get there in time for our departure. lol). We will depart no later than 10:30 am. I decided on this time, so that people can wake up, enjoy breakfast and give the other Challengers traveling time to get to the hotel. This cruise will be organized by our very own NCC member Victoria Conger, who moved down to central California last year. She will be organizing the cruise with Steve McKinnon of Central Coast Challengers. The cruise will be approximately 1 1/2 – 2 hours. Again, please make sure you have a full tank at this point, PRIOR to the 10AM time.
Once we return from the cruise, the rest of the day is yours, until dinner time.
Dinner reservations will be made by Marie at F. McLintocks Saloon & Dining House (750 Mattie Rd Shell Beach, CA). Plenty of parking is available in front of the restaurant in the parking lot. Time TBD. After dinner, the rest of the night is your own. Some people want to go to the drive in and watch a movie, some go check out the nightlife in Pismo or some may want to retire early.
Sunday October 21st, 2018
Free breakfast before you leave. Don’t forget, they do have cook to order items.
Check out time is 11am.
Some of us like to go to Avila Barn after breakfast and before heading home. This is a fun place First we will take a group picture on the haystacks. Then we will walk around, feed the animals (food can be purchased in the veggie area of the market), pick out our pumpkins for Halloween and buy fresh fruits, veggies, pies and gifts at the market. Ya might wanna pick your pumpkin last, so you’re not carrying it around. 🤣
Other people may like to take a trip to Monterey on the way home. So it’s your choice.
And some others want to retire early and go straight home.
Drive safely home.
Marie’s add on:
The Elk Grove meet-up stop will be at the 76 Gas Station at 2323 LAGUNA BLVD, ELK GROVE, CA 95758.
